New Irish music, Irish women’s ballad supergroup forms.

The nice thing about surfing the web for Irish interests and Irish music is sometimes you find a gem or two. Now one of my favorite Irish music vocalists is Dublin native Niamh Parsons. I had the good fortune to attend one of her shows last summer and her voice is just hauntingly smooth. I was thrilled to discover Niamh will be part of a new women’s trio super group of Irish musicians called ” Si Van”. Si Van will consist of Niamh Parsons, Tiona McSherry, and Mary Dillon.

Tiona McSherry comes from a family immersed in the traditional scene, and previously fronted the cross-over band Tamalin as a lead vocalist and flute player.

“Mary Dillon’s voice is all the above. She started out with the Irish band Déanta, which means complete, made, or done. I hope none of those words signify the state of her career, because there are far too few tunes recorded by this lady. Her singing can tear lumps from your heart. She, to me, is one of the most expressive I have ever heard, or will hear again.”

Check out the Si Van website for their proper bio’s and touring information but what an awesome combination of true Irish music talent and they are currently touring, might be a good excuse to head over to Ireland for a bit of Irish craic and and a full measure of Irish song.

Cheers.
