The best things in life can be free, simple, rejuvenating. While The traditional Irish musicians where gathering in the Catskill mountains of New York, I visited the family cabin in Maine with a cd player a campfire and a cooler. Sometimes you forget how nice it is to spend a cool summer night around a wood fire. Add to that friends and relatives with stories to tell. Add to that kids laughing, music playing, and a cold beverage or two. The only question would be what cd’s would you load into the player?
- The Ivy Leaf, traditional Irish music by the Ivy Leaf
- Raised on songs and stories, compilation album including Luke Kelly, Delores Keane, Mary Black, The Fureys, etc.
- The Water in the Well, The Chieftans, there are a million chieftains cds this one has a nice mix of traditional Irish music tunes and songs,
Of course man doesn’t live by traditional Irish music alone, you have to have a toasted marshmallow or two, and a great American Band thrown in to keep everybody happy.
- Bob Seger Live Bullet.
- Lynyrd Skynard, street survivors.
- Nervous eaters. A one time release back in the eighties and is one of the best cds to own.
Sometimes you do have to include the next generation in the playlist.
- Taylor swift.
Thats where I draw the line, and of course when the night draws on there is really nothing better than going back to the Irish themed music. My choice would be Irish folk music legend Paddy Reilly.
Time to throw another log on the fire. Now that the night is winding down I’ll be left to sing a song or two with the last hardy souls, quietly, so as not to disturb those in the cottage, but with feeling enough.
If you have a cd or artist that you listen to by the campsite leave a reply and we’ll make a new list.
Cheers.
Great Irish selection Brian. Not too sure about young Miss Taylor, and I’ll have to check out a couple of your American suggestions.
May I add to the list, Christy Moore….Especially some of the more mellow stuff (campfire in mind). Nancy Spain, Ride On, North and South…the list goes on.
And don’t forget I have about 20+ Irish music songs for free download on GotIreland.com
Cheers,
Liam
Hi Liam, Christy Moore’s ride on a classic, there is a version done by Alchemy on panpipes that is really nice. I know panpipes sounds cheesy but you should check it out.
Your free download section of your website Gotireland.com is a nice feature, maybe the folks at the Ivy leaf would download a tune, check them out at ivyleafmusic.com.
Thanks for the comment and your website, as it’s an Irelandfavorites, favorite.
Cheers,
Brian.
